Ray King – Head Colourist
I made my first film (on super 8mm) at the age of fourteen and entered
it into a competition - it came no-where ! That was the start of my
passion for film and movies. I started work at sixteen as a sound
recordist and quickly moved to telecine doing low end work.
At eighteen I was employed by Studio Film Labs
(which became Soho Images) and worked my way through the laboratory and
video departments to become Head of Telecine. I then moved to the VTR
group to help start up The Machine Room which was great fun. After
about 5 years I became freelance working in Soho and overseas, learning
a variety of new techniques.
I started at Todd-AO six years ago and have had
quite an amazing journey. Upgrading the telecine equipment and suites,
training and assisting new and younger members of the department to
become competent colourists and also setting standards which have
contributed towards Todd-AO’s success. Recently, I have been
working on numerous HD feature films, which I find extremely
interesting.
Outside of work, my passion is golf and play as much as possible. I like to enter competitions and I won the Fuji Open in 2003.
