Paul Staples - Telecine Colourist
After completing a degree in photography, I worked at Pinewood Film Studios as assistant to a special effects coordinator. I then moved on to be a film archive assistant at The British Film Institute in Berk Hampstead before working as a production assistant on Mentorn Films arts programme “01 For London.
I joined Todd-AO in the autumn of 1995 and moved into tape operations, where I quickly moved through the ranks to become a senior tape op. while working in this area I came into contact with the Telecine department where I felt I could indulge my passion for photography and my strong interest in the technical aspects of the broadcast mastering process.
I pursued my goal of becoming a colourist and joined the TK department in spring 1998 and moving onto the nightshift where I was given the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects. These ranged from many prestigious drama titles to high-end commercials, and provided me with invaluable experience and an extensive knowledge base of the film medium.
In the summer of 2001, I joined the dayshift and enjoyed the chance to follow the rushes process to the next step of final master grade. It is in this creatively collaborative situation that I flourish, relishing to projects that demand a unique and special treatment.
I have maintained my strong interest in drama, recently adding to my CV “Sparkling Cyanide” for Carlton, “Monarch of the Glen” for BBC & “Shameless” for Channel 4. In addition to these titles I have worked on a wide range of projects, including promos and documentaries.
